Why did the coyote cross the road?
      #1896439 - Mon Jun 08 2009 03:48 PM

....to get smacked by Tack's Stratoliner.
No lie. Myself and my beloved were heading west on Buckeye Road out of Buckeye, with our stomachs full of BBQ, and our hearts enlightened by the fact that it was Friday night and that means freedom from our corporate gulags.

Well I was shifting through up the gears and rolling on the power when out of nowhere appears this coyote. Just in time for me to whack it, but not in enough time for me to do much to evade it.

It bent the engine guard beyond repair, and broke a bolt that holds the guard to the bike off in the frame.
I have driving lights clamped to the engine guard, and it broke the lens and diffuser on that.

But all in all, I'd say we were fortuneate.
You see, the engine guard took the brunt of it, rather than getting the coyote locked up in a part of the bike that would have contributed to erratic handling or other disasters, it just knocked the coyote silly.

I coasted over, surveyed the damage, and rode home.

The funny thing is, last December I debated and pondered for a long time on that $130 guard. Turns out, it was cheap at twice the price.

So if you ride, you really should invest in one of these. I am going to get a new one myself.

If you ride a sportbike, you can get the peg style guard.

So thats the story, and I thought Id share it, to maybe help someone else be safe.

and see? Here you are still killing coyotes in the off-season. *j/k*

I'm glad you're alright, tack. That couldn't turned out a LOT worse, I'm sure.

That reminds me of the time I nailed a red fox on my way home about 2:30 AM on my uncle's '78 Enduro 500! I was cruisin' along at about 50 mph on the gravel road, it was raining and cold, late September. As I approached the half way point home, a red streak came up out of the ditch, I swerved to avoid contact and managed to miss the fox. He continued on right beside me in the edge of the headlight beam, I held steady on the throttle at about 35 mph and admired him from a distance of about 2 feet. Just as I hit the throttle to speed up and leave him in the dust, he decided he'd break left, behing my front tire, only to get nailed by the back tire.....ooops, that was his last mistake! The funny part about the story was on Monday when my Dad was blaming my Mom for hitting a fox on her way to work, of course, she was blaming him, quite entertaining. To this day they each still think it was the other who hit the fox on our road!
