.223 light bullets and RL-15
      #1894619 - Tue Nov 11 2008 11:15 AM

I have quite a bit of RL-15. Most loads I have found for .223 rem. and RL-15 is with heavy bullets over 60grs. I am wondering how it would work with say 55gr. FMJ's and 7-1/2 primers out of a 16" inch barreled gun. Is RL-15 fast enough for this combo, or should I get a faster burning powder?

I tried it with 55 Vmaxes this summer and had good luck in a 26" barrel, a case full if I remember right. I think the long range shooters use it a lot with the heavy for caliber bullets as you alluded to.

I'd give it try and see what happens. I'm guessing you're running an AR so I'm not sure how it'll cycle but I bet you'll have spectacular muzzle flash.
