I am in the market for a new rifle. I want to get a fine specimen. I currently shoot a remington bdl in .17 REM. I've decided however that I need a new one. My youngest boy is of age so that .17 is perfect for him. I like small caliber thought I might try 20. I'd like a tach 20 but real hard to find. Anyway I been lookin at Sako,Kimber and Cooper. I have found however that the only thing they make in small caliber are these varmint rifles. Several years ago I made the mistake of purchasing one in 220 swift, nice rifle just too damn heavy ,you jump a coyote and by by coyote I couldn't hold the damn thing up. Thats when I got the .17, perfect. Cooper would be perfect but I don't want a single shot the others are all bull barrels. Now I see the CZ and they offer just what I'm looking for in .204 Ruger, but I don't know anything about them. I wanted a match barrel ,pillar/glass bed nice trigger ,I just didn't want to have to build one because I'm the type that wants everything the best so It'll end up costing me $3000.00. SO I was just wondering what to expect out of CZ, never have seen one nobody has one that I know. Thank you for any advice.

Search the board or the Shaun Frame tech talk section for CZ 527 and you should come up with enough reading to make your mind up. Other than the saftey being backward I can find no falts with them. They have no plastic or pot metal parts; I think Shaun Frame once said something to the effect, "they make them like they used to."

The CZ has a nice trigger. and the barrels are good to. The rifle also has a good feel to it.

IMO, this is about as good as you can get in a factory setup. It's priced a bit higher than I would like, but you may think differently. It's certainly not $3000.

Another option I have been debating is to take a factory CZ in 17 Rem and have the barrel turned down to an even lighter profile. They are not really heavy like the typical varminters.

My first one cost me $40.00, but I couldn't stop with one. I have all these but #3, traded it toward a DPMS AR, but added a HS Precision stock varmint .223 and a American .204 and let a friend talk me out of both of them. I bought another HS P varmint model.

I like that little 223 Premium. I've got a couple of them CZ's and they are nice rifles for the money.

One of my favorite coyote rifles is a CZ527 American, the only thing I did not like about it was the stock was a bit ugly. I just put a new stock on it and had it pillar bedded and checkered now I need to go try it out. B

Ouch Dave,
I prefer the Walnut stocks over the plywood ones myself, but I have a few of them too.

Hey Dave, You know tastes are different. I personally like that stock. If you don't like it fine, but you don't need to put other peoples stuff down.

Brent,
There was absolutely nothing personal with my post.
As you know, Most CZ's Have fairly nice wood installed at the factory, Fit and finish is exceptional.
The Laminates, although bullet proof and very stable, are necessarily heavy and cumbersome.
Not to mention the fact that "I" personally do not care for the look.
Some would probably say my paint jobs are ugly but that would not bother me in the least and I hope that boatanchor did not take offence.
Guess this is the best I can do for an apology that I don't feel necessary.
I guess I am kinda like John-Henry and Dan Carey and some others on this board. I kinda say what I feel.

If some people dont like my stock that is fine with me, the factory stock that came on this rifle was the worst I have ever seen ,so when I had the chance to have a custom plywood stock made I just told him to do it and it is much nicer than the origional. I would have never put a new stock on this rifle except that I really like it, great trigger once ajusted properly and the best factory barrel I have ever owned plus it is light and very accurate making it a much better than average choice for a coyote rifle. Hey BA, If you are happy with it then that's all that really matters. CZ's make some dandy calling rifles, I actually have one or two.
BTW, there is a lot of friendly teasing on this board too.

BA,
A thick hide isn't required to hang around here, but sooner or later it's usually aquired.
Don't take things too personal. There's a good bunch of experienced callers around here, but we don't always agree on cosmetics.
Some of us like blondes, others like redheads, while quite a few prefer the brunettes. In spite of our differences, we all still like to shoot coyotes, so it's not all bad.

Yeah Dan, but you're still wrong about those long barrels.

Hey B, That checkering looks familiar, the forearm looks simular to what I put on the Rabbi's rifle about 5 years ago.
Who did yours, and what did it cost? If you don't mind.

Well through much positive opinion (mainly on this board) I feel the people here are of the same moral and ethical fiber as myself, I ordered and received the CZ American in .204 Ruger. I also installed a VXII 3x9 with the Long Range reticle, this was a little more for the reticle and most coyotes are within 100 yards but it like the 204 are different and new to me so what the hell. Upon first review the stock was slightly ascue at the fore end and touching the barrel I remendied this with some sandpaper and noticed that when putting the action back in the stock that it must be torqued in a certain fashion otherwise the clip will not come out, I dont know if that is good or bad I guess I will find out when I start shooting it. But I do love the weight it is by far the lightest I've felt and that was one main factor for me. So now it is on to break in the barrel?

The magazine is hanging because you didn't get the bottom metal in there tight when you put it back together. Take it apart and put it carefully back together, making sure the mgazine well metal is solid up against the bottom of the receiver and you will have solved your magazine problem. I've done it many times.

You won't be disapointed, I never heard of one that wouldn't shoot under an inch with the right ammo.
I put them back together wrong about half the time so I knew exactly what you were experiencing from the way you explained how the magazine was acting.
Glad you got it fixed.
