Are there websites that you can order parts from so that you can piece together a rifle. Kind of like a build it yourself type deal?? Or would I be better off just buying the rifle from a dealer or a pro gun builder? I am sure that the price either way will be the same. I am looking for a .17 Fireball or very close to it. Thanks for all of the help and critizum I am about to recieve.

There is only one bolt action rifle that I know of that you could, with a little knowledge and mail order parts, "roll your own". That is the Savage 110 series of actions. The action, considered and designated a firearm by ATF, would be acquired from a dealer or a private person as a donor rifle. Once you have that you can get everything else you need from Sharp Shooters Supplies on the internet. You will have to see what they have available in chamberings but since the .17 Fireball is a legitimate cartridge now if they don't have it I assume that they soon will.
If I were acquiring my first "custom" rifle I would order one of James Calhoons rifles in 19 Badger, but thats me and I change my calling rifles about as frequently as my underwear.
You will enjoy whatever you decide on I'm sure. And you are right about the costs. In my experience, rifles put together with parts are more expensive in the end than just buying what you want from a quality maker like Calhoon or Cooper, etc.

OK, so when are you getting your 19 Badger from Calhoon, even though it's not your first custom?

If I could pry loose the money I'd order one today.
Looks like i'll have to save up though since I don't have any I want to sell. I'm in a heck of a predicament when all my rifles are too good to sell you know it?
Oh well, someone has to be there.

It depends a little on what you are wanting to build. Some companies have threaded chambered barrels that are short chambered so you adjust the headspace. What are you looking to build. Maybe I can help. I have built several guns and have the equipment to do it. I have two .17 firealls that I am finishing right now I just have to send off for blue then finish them, 1 is a 527 CZ and the other is a 599 Rem.

Yes, Brownells and Midway USA for starters. Both have websites and also offer large mailing catalogs.
You can build/ piece your own regardless of how much work you want to invest. I just 'pieced' 2 riles by buying NIB, non-current 700 ADL rifles for $350 each, sold parts and bought components online. I'm not equipped to do any barrel fitting/finishing so I had that done by the barrel makers.
Both rifles are just the way I like them and neither exceeded $1,100.

Looking to most likely build a 527 CZ. Just looking at all of the options out there....Thought that it would be cooler to use a "personel" rifle than a "store bought" rifle. Thanks for all of the help!

Hit the pawn shops and the used gun rack look for a beater 527 that has a good action left on it. those are hard to destroy
everything else can be replaced barrel, stock & trigger if you want although I love my BnL's 527 in 204 it has a great set trigger
Elk ridge gun stocks will make you a 95% drop in stock for almost any rifle and you can buy a tool to inlet the barrel from brownells for $25-30 bucks well worth it if you think you will ever do another one
Reamer Rentals will rent you a finish reamer for less than $100 or you can buy one in the caliber of your choice from brownells
the "go" and "no go" gauges are also rentable or about $30 from brownells also in the caliber of your choice.
