The three of us got home about an hour ago. Got attacked by my two fur balls, tails and tongues wagging all over the place.
There's still a little snow on the ground. We were able to run at a good speed all the way home. The Southern/southern route through Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, St. Louis added about 200 miles, but was smooth sailing. Didn't encounter any ice like we did on the way to the Rondy.
Thanks to John-Henry, Don, that Texan "Doc" who escorted me back to the trailer one night. , and all who came. I had a great time and regret having to wait another year to repeat it all.
I sure hope everyone else had as good of a time as I did, and made it home all right. Thanks again.

Looks like you beat me home by an hour or two - but then I got 8 hours sleep in Mikes guest room.
Tired now though - talk to you all later.

Dan, Glad to hear ya'll made it home safe. I now know what it's like to hit a frozen bridge at 60mph, and see it going by forwards and backwards. I even listened to you and didn't hit the gas or brakes. I spun out and hit nothing, so it served to wake me up a little on the drive. All in all, aside from finally getting a big bobcat on the road home( maybe I need a car gun in AZ) and splitting damn near half in two with the underneath of my vehicular, it was a safe and quiet ride. MikeH, Ken, SFrame, DanS and the brothers Stipek, Fox243, Dan Carey, and most of all our hosts J-H and our wonderful Chef( and hunting guide) Moon Dog, Thank you for an enjoyable trip. I will soon be making arrangements to go again next time.

A splendid event as usual, great company, good food, and lots of philosophy.
This one was saddened a little by the absence of so many of our friends and comrades, but I was heartened to see our young warrior home safe and killing coyotes, where he belongs. He's one of the young ones that makes me smile and gives me hope. Darrell was a joy to have around; hard working, a smile on his face, and a value system I can admire. Wish we had more of them.
Don, your generosity as usual just excelled. It sure would be a lot tougher and a lot hungrier without you. I was especially pleased to finally meet Frankie; you two are a joy to behold. Always is lovely to see somebody who has it figured out.
Thanks to you all for the usual great time, BS, good guns, and general male behavior. We're all very lucky to have this.
Till next year.

I would also especially like to thank Brent Parker also for letting us invade his home while he was stuck in Il. Really, that was a very generous thing to do. Hospitality like that is a rare thing. We owe him big time; I hope we can return the favor someday.

There was some jerkey laced with battery acid or something "too damn hot" to eat. I saw some of that laying around.

Funny thing, I didn't take any pic's this time. There was someone running around with a camera though. Maybe that was Darrel B.

Not yours - that was perfect. The Jerky he's talking about was bought in the local kwiky mart.
The whitetail was good.

To All,
Thanks to you for all your thanks.
I had a good time too.
Brent is here this week and if anything it is a little worse than last week. We had almost a foot of accumulated snow three nights ago. A heavy rain and there is a foot of mud everywhere you want to call.
Brent has called a few but has yet to get a good shot off at one. I went with him yesterday but we both were mudded out after about 4 stands. It's more of the same today with another storm predicted for tonight.
This has been the coldest Winter in Arizona for the past twenty the natives are saying. The same with the snow fall, heaviest in 15-20 years. Must be globsl WARMING Brrrrr!
We'll have to try it again next year. I still haven't had enough dry to take the tents down yet. Maybe I'll just leave them up for next year.
BTW did anyone leave a thermos here ? I've got it if you lost it.
Thanks Again
Don

Don,
I'm not that far west of you guys, but it sure sounds like you all got it worse than us. I've only had about an inch of snow here, but the mountains are covered good.
It's also snowing now, so who knows. This isn't the wettest winter I can remember in the last 20 years for here, but it sure could be the coldest.
With just a bit of luck, maybe we can get another calling trip in. Hopefully it'll dry out some.

Global Warming doesn't mean that the whole planet heats up; it's a much more complex phenomenon than that. As you can see, your beloved Pentagon itself forecasts weather perturbations to include a DROP of five or so degrees for North America, with a corresponding rise in temperatures for South America and parts of Africa.
You'll also note that they predict winter storms that increase in intensity, which strikes me as a fair summation of the little old snow that we just had (which is more snow than I've seen in the valley in 22 or so years).
I'd like to think that it's all bad science, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case; if the desert Southwest sees increasing moisture as a result of global climate change it's good for this region in the short term, but it doesn't bode well for mankind as a whole, as best I can tell.

What the Hell is that?????????
Surely that's not a shot from the skinning porch? Good Grief! The world has gone mad. Somebody pop a nuke and straighten things out.
And DAwg: If that's a silver Nissan thermos, tall and thin, holds about a pint or a little more, it's mine. I knew I'd leave it on that Kitchen counter. If it's convenient, send it to me in time by slow, cheap freight. It wasn't cheap, but it may be better to buy a new one. It's my saddle bag thermos. I'll reimburse you the shipping.

Of course we went up; Cheryl and I were locked and loaded early, but Hwy. 191 was closed, so we couldn't get North until 10:30 or so when the police people opened the road. Unfortunately it was still snowing and blowing in the 'Cows, but we rode six or seven miles, cut hundreds of deer tracks, and saw nary a bobcat or fox or lion track. That snow was wet to begin with, and it's made the whole country into a muddy mess, as the Dawg observed, but it's supposed to snow again tonight, so maybe I'll catch a pony and go back up in the morning, although it may still be too sloppy to get anywhere close with the trailer.
It was a cold wet ride, but well worth it just to see all that snow in a canyon that I've cursed for the heat and the gnats many times. Folks in most parts of the country just sort of take snow for granted, but down here it's kind of a novelty, particularly in the last fifteen or so years, and even though most people were huddled inside mumbling about the stuff (the ones who weren't sliding their vehicles into the bar ditches, anyhow) I was out there in the middle of it, if only to have something to remember in a few months when the thermometer cracks 100 degrees.

I don't know about all that, John-Henry. If you'd been here in the 70's you'd remember a lot of winters like this. The 80's and 90's seemed strange to me for their lack of snow.
This is more like it!
It's true enough that it's been a hard winter all across the US, and Global warming could very well be contributing to it, but I really can remember winters like this when I was young. Some were even worse, because a 2 foot snow killed most of the mesquite trees around here in '79.
Maybe you remember all the mesquites coming out from the roots when you first got to the valley?

Daryl:
I'm sure that you're right, but I follow the debate on Global Warming pretty closely, and it's evident that the scientific consensus is tipping heavily in favor of the idea, particularly in the last couple of years. When the Department of Defense issues papers like that it's pretty evident that the idea has reached farther than the lunatic Greenie fringe, and perhaps we would all do well to pay attention a little.
Hell, the President himself specifically mentioned it in his State of the Union address a couple of nights ago, and that after years of poo-pooing the idea, if that tells you anything.
The really bad news is that if it is in fact an accellerating phenomenon caused by industrialized man it may be too late to do anything about it, which means that we've managed to screw ourselves quite nicely; I don't know about you, but that causes me to feel a little like the poisoner who inadvertently drinks from the wrong glass.
I suppose that, like so many other things, we'll find out sooner or later, one way or the other; in the meantime I'm watching the models to see if perhaps there's a place to get the hell out of the way.

Well, we don't have any snow, but they're calling for 37 in the morning in the Sunshine State, and we had a cold rain all morning here. Your place sure does look kinda funny all snowed up, boss! T'ain't like I remember it at all. It seems to me that global warming shouldn't be that hard to demonstrate scientifically. I expect that it's happening...it just remains to be seen how serious the effects are in terms of severity and longevity.

Stay away from the coasts, plains, riverine areas, mountain valleys, the greater yellowstone area and you should be okay. Although once the methyl hydrate deposits in the oceans depths get released due to the anticipated warming of the oceans, we'll all be asphyxiated by methane gas en masse. Either that or the MOAFAE will be realized. That would be mother of all fuel/air explosions. The last two are my theories of extinction.
I think the next ice age will also be of a concern. It will definitely congeal humanity in the green spots. Then it will get real interesting.
Or maybe I need to watch less discovery channel.
P.S. where are the Rondy pix?
P.S.S. Has anyone heard from Andy or DanS lately? There was one winner of the powerball in MO. 245 mil.

Cripes! You got more snow down there than I’ve had all winter. Just been cold here; but then we were wallowing in the stuff the last 2 winters. The way I figure, unless something drastic happens in the very near future, I’ll be getting an early start to the mountains this summer.

This is the first winter we have had that amounted to anything in 20yrs. We had some snows, but this is closer to normal. When I was still at home, snows would stay for weeks at a time. We fed literally thousands of square bales each year, around 20k bales to be exact. Missed lots of school due to snow and ice.
We just havent had that til this year.

She wasnt too happy bout that. LOL
