Sorry Tack, that is a hard loss.
One thing though, when you spend a whole lifetime (Misty's) with a dog, you will be able to pull up memories of some pretty funny incidents and times with that animal for the rest of your life. You will always remember their loyalty too.

I am so sorry to hear of your Misty's passing.
The ache in your heart must seem unbearable. This ache will be diminished and the sadness will in time be replaced by fond memories.
I wish my words could speed this process. But, only time will heal your wound.
May time pass quickly and heal your wound soon.

You have my condolences, brother. Never forget, my friend: all dogs go to heaven. A good life, well spent...that's all any of us can ever ask for. As I'm sitting here typing this, I'm looking over at a plaque that a friend got for me that reads, "A pet brings love to life. T.M.B. 01-07-06". She got if for me after The Mighty Blitz, my beloved dobie, passed away two years ago as I held him in my arms. I love the ol' Bone Daddy and Mojo Mama, but I still miss Blitz. He was a steadfast and loyal companion, and the sweetest of dogs. He and Bone Daddy got along famously. I'd wake up every morning to him standing beside my bed, licking me in the face to say hello. All we can do is celebrate the time we had with them, and give our love to the dogs that we have with us now before they, too, pass. Our own time will come soon enough, at the appointed day and hour.

August '08 sure has been a shit time for dogs. Downright depressing.
