A NOTE TO ALL USERS

This is kinda like the old test in Psychology class (the one that had instructions at the top that began "Leave this entire test blank"). If you don't read this, and you commit a faux paus of some kind in this House, you'll have only yourself to blame.

First, I'd like this Board to reflect real and accurate information; the Internet is littered with "bad dope", and although it seems fashionable to believe that every opinion ought to be held to be equally valid, that's not a belief that I subscribe to; the entire paradigm of empiricism suggests to me that some ideas, techniques, and procedures are more valid then others, and as Sole Administrator and King-Hell Dictator of this Board I reserve the absolute right to assert the value of some ideas over the value of some others, at my pleasure.

On the flip side, I respect the right of people to offer other opinions, and I'm not overly concerned (as so many other sites appear to be) that you be "Nice" above all else; spirited discussion will be welcomed, not censored, within any limits that I may be pleased to establish. The list of censored words will be a short one; a little profanity hither and yon adds spice to the language, (see this link)

General Patton's (unabridged) speech to the 3rd Army

but over-the-top use of nasty words will be negatively consequented, so try to abide by that, and hold both fingers and tongue from any over-exuberant display of gutter filth, particularly pointless gutter filth.

Equally, the list of censored persons will be a short one, especially to begin with, but you probably know if you're one of the people that are one short step away from making it; do not tempt the Reaper, for the swift and merciless sword will descend unerringly upon your pointed head, and you will be cast forth, like Cain, to wander in the land of Nod, with the gates to Coyotegods.com barred to you henceforth.

It is my hope that this Board, like "The Shade Tree" (Which set a standard yet to be matched) will become a Mecca for callers of all descriptions; UBB software is a flexible and powerful tool, and the Archive function alone ought to make this Board a gold mine of information in months to come. I welcome you all, and I hope that you'll enjoy yourself here, share what knowledge you might have, and take away with you what you might need in order to become a better caller.

Have fun; a man needs something to pass the time when he's not calling.

John-Henry

P.S. By the way, if you want to bookmark the Board, make sure that your bookmark points to this address:

Otherwise the navigational bar on the left won't travel, and it'll make it harder to get around.

A SECOND NOTE TO ALL USERS

Once I was a bright and articulate child, and although I failed badly of my promise, I managed to inculcate myself rather thoroughly with a command of the English language.

As a result, I have some knee-jerk reflexes concerning certain usage thereof that I find myself unable to overcome.

Having said that, it appears to me that some guests in this House have not paid sufficient attention to the Original Coyote Gods Page, in particular to the portion found at this address:

The Coyote Gods Intro Page

Please take particular note of the paragraph immediately below the picture caption that reads:

"The second photograph illustrates the goal of most coyote callers."

In addition, I am appending an entry from Merriam-Webster below, for such persons who may need assistance with spelling and/or pronunciation (and incidentally, the first pronunciation is the preferred one; persons who make "coyote" a three-syllable word all sound as though they work for PETA or live in a large Eastern city (or both).

"Main Entry: coy·ote
Pronunciation: 'kI-"Ot, kI-'O-tE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural coyotes or coyote
Etymology: Mexican Spanish, from Nahuatl coyOtl
Date: 1759
1: A buff-gray to reddish gray North American canid (Canis latrans) closely related to but smaller than the wolf."

Humor me in this; I have to read every post in my official position as Administrator, and every time I see some bastardized usage or other it makes my teeth hurt.

John-Henry

A THIRD NOTE TO ALL USERS

It has just come to my attention that only about 1/5 of our registered users have checked the "receive e-mail from Administrator" box when registering, and as a result you've missed out on a happy little note that I just sent to the portion of those users that enabled the function.

It would probably be just as well if you edited your profiles and enabled that box; I won't bore you to tears with meaningless e-mails, but there may be some infrequent occasions when I'd like to send something to the Board members instead of posting it on one of the forums.

The text of the happy note appears below; it's not as though it were classified information or anything, but there may be some deep dark secret in the future that you'll miss out on if you don't change that option, and you wouldn't want to be standing outside the gates while your buddies were granted some vision of retarded glory, now would you?

John-Henry

"The number of registered users of the coyotegods.com board has now reached four digits, and I'd like to thank all of you for making our House a success.

I'd also like to encourage those of you that may be a little shy to post any question or comment that you might have; traditionally these Boards have a relatively small core of persons who actually post, and a large contingent of persons that merely lurk in the background and read, and I'd like everyone in the House to feel comfortable about speaking; you are all our guests, and we'd like to hear from each one of you if you're so minded."

John-Henry
